Riding the Waves Towards the Lion City: EMAN Aids Singapore’s OMNI in Digital Transformation

Project Background

Under the new dual-circulation development strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative, a new blueprint for global cooperation and shared success is expanding across industries. More and more Chinese software industries are beginning to "go global." How did an international leader in the field of high-precision plastic injection engineering and EMAN spark a multinational collaboration?

From the ancient Silk Road journeys to Zheng He's explorations in the Ming Dynasty, generations have built bridges of cooperation between East and West. Now, in the context of the dual-circulation strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative, this spirit continues with more Chinese software companies stepping into the global arena. Over 15 years, while serving domestic enterprises, EMAN has continuously explored overseas projects, gaining clients in Vietnam, Germany, and other countries. Recently, EMAN embarked on a new collaboration with their first Singaporean client, OMNI. Despite the 3,400 km distance between Singapore, the Lion City, and Wuhan, both prominent in their respective fields, they managed to ignite the sparks of cross-border collaboration.

First Impressions Matter

One afternoon in 2018, an email appeared in an EMAN market staff's inbox. It was from a representative in Singapore expressing interest in EMAN's mold MES system. The inquiry came from OMNI MOLD (OMNI for short), part of Singapore's Sunningdale Tech Ltd Group, founded in 1989. Over the years, facilitated by government support, Sunningdale Tech has acquired numerous factories, becoming Singapore's largest mold manufacturer, with branches in over ten countries. OMNI specializes in producing high-performance molds, excelling in fields such as ultra-precision, high-complexity, and multi-cavity injection molds. Their work, covering industries like pharmaceuticals, healthcare, nutrition, IT, OA products, automotive, and consumer electronics, has earned global recognition as one of the most advanced in ultra-precision mold manufacturing.

Preparing for the Future
Through its 30-plus-year history, OMNI has consistently sought lean management to tackle market challenges. They embraced informatization early, using ERP systems for years, maintained by an internal technical team, excelling in finance, HR, and material management.

However, despite ERP assistance, as OMNI advanced, the management noticed inconsistencies, with some workshops extremely busy and others idle during heavy order periods. This lack of smooth collaboration and low efficiency became hurdles against increasingly competitive markets demanding higher quality, cost efficiency, and timing. To overcome this, OMNI felt a pressing need to embrace smart manufacturing.

Although OMNI is no stranger to smart manufacturing, they believe in tailored solutions. Through years of observing cutting-edge technologies and evaluating system practices globally, OMNI's management realized ERP alone fell short in workshop execution and mold process management. They decided to adopt a mold workshop MES system. However, knowing that pinpoint solutions weren't optimal, OMNI sought a strategic partner for lean production beyond just MES implementation.

Partnering with EMAN

For two years, OMNI searched locally in Singapore for a suitable MES provider without success. Through a recommendation from a Guangdong plant employee, OMNI learned about EMAN, leading to initial communication via email.

From initial contact to establishing a partnership, EMAN faced rigorous evaluations—online proposals were discussed multiple times, OMNI project leaders visited EMAN HQ, and customer locations in Shanghai and Ningbo. EMAN's professionalism, proven through solid case studies and dedicated service, won OMNI's trust and approval.

Once aligned, EMAN formed a dedicated project team, conducting thorough assessments between Wuhan and Singapore. Though OMNI had the foresight to integrate smart tools, they lacked a unified management approach for a closed-loop business framework. EMAN introduced their mold lifecycle management philosophy and offered OMNI the EMan solution, providing one-stop mold management from order to delivery. Boasting powerful integration capabilities, EMan ensures cross-departmental data integration, creating a transparent production process and bridging information silos.

If we compare a factory to a human body, EMan serves as the central nervous system for intelligent manufacturing. The human central nervous system receives input from all parts of the body, processes this information, and coordinates the movement of limbs and torso. Similarly, EMan integrates all systems and connects with underlying equipment, distributing the received information to the appropriate users. It fully streamlines every aspect of OMNI's operations, including production scheduling, production statistics, cost control, product manufacturing, and inventory management, thereby establishing a comprehensive closed-loop management model for organizing production.

For example, the EMAN Mold Intelligent Manufacturing System can help workshop workers clearly understand every step in the production process. It records when a material is scheduled to be loaded onto a machine, when the processing begins, when it ends, when the material is unloaded, and when the final measurements are taken before it moves to the next process. Simultaneously, the system can analyze and provide insights on which timeframes can be shortened or further optimized, allowing for flexible adjustments that reduce waiting times in different production stages. As a result, production efficiency and delivery times are improved, and employee performance management becomes clearer and more transparent.
The Future of Local Software

Today's market spans diverse industries with varying software needs, eliminating a one-size-fits-all approach seen with CAD or PLM. This diversification presents an opportunity for Chinese software. The industrial software sector's growing importance is supported by national policies fostering local development. By focusing on niche expertise and addressing industry challenges in software, domestic developers can shine brightly, advancing towards global markets. Though the path of going international is fraught with challenges, the spirit of EMAN remains determined, relentlessly navigating towards the open sea with high sails!
