Raidu Partners with EMAN to Create a Digital Factory for All Types of Molds in the Automotive Parts Industry

Release Time:2024-06-12 Author:EMAN Technology Views:1260

For the mold industry, most companies are specialists, typically focusing on a single type of mold manufacturing. However, a mold company with complex products and business models must possess the "super skills" to tackle any challenge, and maintaining these capabilities long-term requires digital technology support.

As a multinational automotive parts supplier with process coverage in injection molds, stamping molds, and die-casting molds, Pangeo-Raidu Mold must manage more complex processes, diversified equipment, and require higher levels of production scheduling flexibility and integration capacity with information systems.

To fundamentally enhance overall operational efficiency, reduce costs, and boost market competitiveness, Raidu Mold has recently launched the EMAN Mold MES project. This initiative aims to achieve unified and digital management and optimization of the entire mold production process within complex multi-process environments, enhance equipment utilization, improve production plan flexibility, and ensure precise control of production progress, cost, and quality. By deeply mining and analyzing production data, it aims to optimize resource allocation, empower precise decision-making, and facilitate the transition from traditional to intelligent manufacturing.

About Raidu Mold >>

Hunan Raidu Mold Technology Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pangeo Technology Co., Ltd. Founded in 1993, Pangeo is a multinational manufacturing company providing key components for the global automotive industry, including power systems, seat systems, and chassis systems, as well as a range of automotive lighting mold series and industrial automation equipment. The company’s key products, such as automotive pedal lifting systems, transmission parking system components, precision injection molds, stamping molds, progressive molds, die-casting molds, and over 500 other product types, primarily serve North American, Asian, and European automotive manufacturers. Key clients include renowned international and domestic automotive OEMs such as General Motors, Ford, BMW, Great Wall, FAW, SAIC, GAC, and SAIC-GM, as well as global auto parts companies like Magna, BorgWarner, Lear, Getrag, GKN, and ZF.

Pangeo has seven manufacturing plants, eight distribution centers, and two R&D centers worldwide, located across North America, Asia, and Europe, with its international headquarters in Canada and its China headquarters in Changsha, Hunan Province. Hunan Raidu Mold Co., Ltd. (referred to as Raidu Mold) is a professional provider of mold design and manufacturing, automation equipment, and services. Its main products include automotive headlamp injection molds, precision stamping molds for transmission components, large progressive stamping molds, high-pressure die-casting molds, and various types of automation equipment, marking it as one of the few domestic companies with comprehensive capabilities in the production of plastic, precision stamping, conventional stamping, and die-casting mold manufacturing.

Diverse Mold Types and Complex Business Prompt MES Selection from Multiple Angles

Previously, Raidu Mold relied heavily on manual methods for issuing work orders in production, leading to management challenges such as not reflecting real-time work order status, an inability to quantify employee processing time, and the need for management to inquire or visit sites personally to track project progress. To optimize mold management processes, Raidu Mold decided to pursue a digital transformation. Given that different molds have varying manufacturing processes, required equipment, and processing technologies, Raidu Mold has higher requirements for flexibility and complexity in production planning, scheduling, and control compared to single-type mold companies. Therefore, during the MES supplier selection, the following key assessment dimensions were emphasized:

High Efficiency and Flexibility in Production Scheduling:

With diverse mold types and large production volumes, Raidu Mold requires efficient and detailed production planning that navigates the complex intertwining of equipment, personnel, delivery timelines, and processes. A supplier system must generate efficient, detailed production plans to match production with planning and coordination with execution.

Meeting Various Process Requirements:

The supplier’s MES system must fully cover multiple manufacturing process workflows such as injection, stamping, die-casting, and machining. It needs to have practical experience in the digital management of various mold manufacturing processes, aiding Raidu Mold in establishing a unified, digital, and transparent management platform for the complete production process of molds (injection/stamping/die-casting) and machining workshops.

Robust Data Analysis and Decision Support:

Given the diversity in Raidu Mold's production, the supplier’s MES system needs powerful data analysis capabilities to aggregate and analyze production data across processes, identify efficiency bottlenecks, cost optimization areas, and quality improvement opportunities, thus enabling more precise decision-making by management.

Experienced with Comprehensive Training Support:

Since the system application spans multiple departments, the supplier needs proven success cases with similar enterprises and must provide comprehensive training and technical support to ensure smooth cross-departmental system implementation at Raidu Mold.

After a comprehensive evaluation, EMAN met all of Raidu Mold's requirements, leading to a collaboration agreement.

Continuous Learning, Goal Orientation, and Strong Execution

At the project kick-off meeting, General Manager Pan of Raidu Mold emphasized the project’s execution requirements:

"The greatest challenge with MES for Raidu is execution. The difficulty lies in conceptually embracing changes that affect work habits. We hope everyone actively engages and learns, as the MES system will offer a valuable learning and development opportunity for all project participants."

The Process as the "Road" for Manufacturing Success

EMAN’s Director and Deputy General Manager, Yang Hui, commented on successful project implementation:

"Shortening mold manufacturing lead times is the core focus for mold companies. Shortening lead times inherently improves quality and reduces costs. For a company to maintain enduring, stable quality assurance, transparent, precise cost control, and exact, continuous lead time guarantee, the process is the fundamental foundation. Processes are like roadways in a city – once the roads are well-constructed, vehicles can move swiftly. During the project implementation, ensuring strong execution in each area is vital."

The automotive parts industry urgently needs to enhance management efficiency and accelerate innovation. As a leading industrial software provider, EMAN is ready to collaborate with more clients and partners to explore new paths in digital transformation, providing automotive parts companies with more comprehensive, efficient, and valuable solutions for achieving operational efficiency and cost optimization.
